Para ello selecciona a los 50 mejores alumnos preuniversitarios de España con el propósito de compartir con ellos la experiencia de un viaje de 20 días alrededor de Europa, visitando las principales universidades y participando en un programa de conferencias, encuentros con personalidades de primer nivel del mundo académico, político y cultural y participando en actividades culturales y de ocio.
A la XVII edición del Programa Becas Europa se han presentado 4.000 estudiantes de prácticamente todas las comunidades autónomas de España, y de centros tanto públicos como concertados y privados. Tras superar distintas fases y pruebas, fueron seleccionados 200 finalistas, que compitieron por una de las 50 plazas de Becas Europa durante un fin de semana de trabajo que se celebró en Madrid los días 24 y 25 de marzo.
Los 200 finalistas participaron en proyectos y actividades, centrados este año en articular proyectos para la mejora la Isla de La Palma, tras los efectos padecidos por la erupción del volcán Cumbre Vieja.
Por equipos, los estudiantes presentaron 27 proyectos en 8 áreas de actuación: cultura y sociedad, agricultura y ganadería, educación, infraestructura y edificación, empresa y empleo, sanidad, medio ambiente y vida espiritual.
